Numerical simulation
In some cases, it may not be possible to develop a simplified model and a “heavy” numerical simulation is required. We refer to “heavy” simulation as the use of complex models, generally discretized in time and space, with a wide validity domain.
The use of complex models requires specific skills, beyond the scope of the tool itself: knowledge of the underlying mathematical techniques (solvers used, representation assumptions, equations of state, etc.), ability to use the mesher or preprocessor to build a representative geometric model, selection of appropriate numerical parameters, simulation time control according to machine capabilities and code specificities, detection of calculation anomalies, post-processing and analysis of massive data, etc.
Do you need to simulate the effects of an explosion on an existing or planned structure? Quantify toxic releases, while taking product decomposition kinetics into account? Study large-scale flooding or dam failure events? Do you want to optimize the design of a test by positioning sensors optimally? Or do you need to back up experimental results with a more global analysis?
