About Us

Our vision

Our goal is to bridge the gap between the research done by different laboratories and public bodies, often disconnected from actual needs, and the supply of effective tools to end-users (emergency services, law enforcement agencies, but also companies, design offices…).

Like Rabelais, we believe that “Science without conscience is the ruin of the soul”. We are honest, transparent, reliable and committed to our customers. We firmly believe that we have a social responsibility to contribute to the common good.

Who we are

APEX solutions was founded in July 2019 by Emmanuel Lapébie, previously a senior expert at the CEA. The company was created to pursue the work done during the ANR DEMOCRITE project (2014-2018), which he coordinated [see article]. The DEMOCRITE platform is a risk coverage engine demonstrator for emergency services, as well as a model and mapping integration tool.

OUR EXPERTISE

explosion

Explosives and ammunition operation

We are experts in the field of explosives and ammunition, from their nominal (detonation and post-combustion) or non-nominal (reaction to accidental aggression) operation to their effects on the environment: blast wave, quasistatic pressure, thermal effects, fragments, etc. We develop our own tools to quickly model explosions in complex environments and for warheads and improvised explosive devices in general.

Toxic release dispersion

Our second main area of activity is the modeling of toxic releases, from their generation to their effects on the environment. In order to assess the impact of such releases on health, we pay particular attention to the source term of the release: its physical, thermodynamic, kinematic or chemical state, etc. We are specially interested in non-classical source terms, i.e. fast compressible flows, for which the usual approaches fail.

Major hazards

We are highly experienced in the study of major natural hazards (earthquakes, floods, etc.), man-made hazards (explosions, fires, toxic releases, etc.) and health hazards (epidemics), as well as in approaches to assess the vulnerability and resilience of complex systems. We also focus on cartographic approaches, which provide a spatialized view of hazards and issues, which is essential for risk management (analysis, coverage, decision support, etc.).

Numerical simulation

The company’s founder has over 20 years’ experience in the field of numerical simulation of fast-moving phenomena applied to explosions and toxic substance releases. APEX solutions uses the 3D parallelized code on unstructured mesh DALPHADT developed by RS2N, a leading SME in the field of reactive multiphase flows. The algorithms developed by RS2N have been published in the best scientific journals in the field.
