In 2021, I graduated with a degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Microbiology from the Université Paul Sabatier – Toulouse III. However, science was one of my two passions, the second being law. I did this degree while keeping in mind my first professional idea, which was to study law. After a great deal of research into how I could combine the two, I managed to find and enroll in a master’s degree that would enable me to do just that: the double master’s degree in Biotechnologies – Intellectual Property Law. This master’s degree is offered by the Université Paul Sabatier – Toulouse III in partnership with the Université Capitole – Toulouse 1, and has opened up new horizons for me.

This year, which is my final year of a multi-disciplinary course, was spent at the Université Capitole – Toulouse 1, where I was able to learn a great deal about the legal aspects of intellectual property law. Then came the time to look for an internship at the end of my Master’s degree, where it was inconceivable for me to do an internship without being able to combine science and law. After meeting APEX Solutions at a forum, the company offered me the chance to take part in scientific monitoring and an intellectual property audit of its assets. It was then quite natural for me to choose this company.

On March 20, 2023, I joined the APEX Solutions team as a scientific and legal intern on a project entitled VES²P²ER: VEille Scientifique et Stratégie de Propriété pour une Petite Entreprise de Recherches.

Internship: VES²P²ER (Scientific Monitoring and Ownership Strategy for a Small Research Company)

The aim of the internship is twofold:
– on the one hand, to carry out an Intellectual Property audit covering all of APEX solutions’ fields of activity, and to draw up the associated protection strategy,
– secondly, to carry out a scientific watch on drone-based 3D scene acquisition technologies, covering the carrier, the various sensors and the digital processing tools.

Expertises

As part of the Clinique du droit, a partnership between companies and the Université Capitole – Toulouse 1, I was able to carry out an intellectual property audit for a Canadian start-up. This experience was a real driving force behind my desire to help companies protect their assets.

I was also able to carry out my first scientific watch as part of this master’s degree. Although it was fictitious, it enabled me to understand the key steps for carrying out new ones in the future, but also how difficult it is for companies to carry them out successfully. However, monitoring is very important both in the context of scientific projects, to keep abreast of the creations and publications of other scientists, whether attached to universities or companies; and in the legal context, to keep abreast of competing filings before or after filing. It is therefore essential for companies to detect opportunities and threats, and establish appropriate strategies.

Motivations

At the end of my Master’s degree, I’d like to become an Intellectual Property Attorney, mainly for small companies. The fact that I can help a small company to build up its intellectual property protection is of paramount importance to me, because it’s a job of great importance to build a project together and in line with the company’s needs and expectations.

What’s more, small companies like APEX Solutions emanate a benevolent, family-oriented spirit, dear to my expectations and needs, with the key words: trust, listening and sharing. So I hope I can go a long way with companies like APEX Solutions, and learn as much from them as they can from me.
