This morning, FedEx delivered a beautiful 80 cm square wooden crate to our offices at the Grand Figeac business center…. It’s a bit late for Easter chocolates (or for a late-arriving bell from Rome?), but we’re delighted with this delivery all the same!
This is our newest recruit, and she goes by the sweet name of BR.A.I.N.S, for BRidging Artificial Intelligence and Numerical Simulation. Its two “brains” are latest-generation AMD EPYC Milan 7413 processors, each with 24 cores (48 threads) running at 2.65 GHz (3.60 GHz in turbo mode). It also features 256 GB of ultra-fast DDR4 memory and an NVIDIA Quadro RTX A5000 GPU card, and is currently equipped with a 2 TB SSD and a 10 TB HDD.
It was meticulously configured by Guillaume, with expert advice from François Fraysse (RS2N), and assembled in the USA by Titan Computers.
As its name suggests, this versatile machine will be used to :
- carry out 3D numerical simulations in fluid mechanics, firstly with OpenFOAM and BlastFOAM to thoroughly test BR.A.I.N.S.’s capabilities, then with RS2N’s innovative multiphase codes,
- to train our own neural networks for image and video processing, and also to develop behavioral AIs to be integrated as “non-player characters” in our various simulation codes.
It’s the weekend, I thought I’d be working this afternoon at home, and Guillaume has just returned from a trip to Paris… but we’re meeting at the office anyway, as we’re both very keen to press the ON button 😊….
